Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: decadent, toasty and perfumed with soft fruits; butter tarts, apple pie and vanilla fudge; peaches and dried apricot; firm but tamed oak and rye spice.
Palate: soft and spicy with notes of corn, wheat and rye; the wheat add a touch of delicacy while the rye kicks up the spice; could the juicyness be the malt? more baked apple, dried apricot and peaches in cream; a touch nutty, more butter tarts and warm pecan pie thrown in for good measure with fresh whipped cream; with patience even more layers, Strawberry Shortcake and caramel corn.
Finish: long, fresh and sweet; it clings gently to the palate while slowly fading into toasted oak and spices.
Comment: it's no secret that I'm a bit of a malt snob; Evan's the one with a Bourbon tooth around these parts; but I'm digging this Bourbon, it is complex without being overly oaked; great neat, but I bet it would be a fine base for a Side Car or The Improved Cocktail.
