About the Label

"Now, if you take a look at the label of our Ben Nevis, you’ll see a chap atop Ben Nevis (mountain), looking at Ben Nevis (distillery), drinking Ben Nevis (whisky) and holding Ben Nevis (bottle), which features the scene again on its label. It’s like one of those eternal loop thought experiments...Ok it’s also known as the Droste Effect."

Andrew's Tasting Note

Nose: ooh... this is milky... going into lactic territory... I smells me some long fermentation notes... honeycomb, freshly picked blackberries and boissonberry jam; gerkins, marzipan, marcona almonds and lightly salted caramel.

Palate: soft, fruity and floral, its silky arrival leads into a plush, coating and voluptuous mouthfeel; malted milk, creme caramel and dulce de leche with more salted caramel; nutty tones of marzipan, and marcona almonds; then melons, kiwi fruit and canned pineapple.

Finish: long, coating and sweet with fading juicy fruit and more decadent desserts.

Comment: this is lush, fruity and decadent with a beautiful mouthfeel and a nice weight; to borrow one of my employee's notes on a previous Ben Nevis, "it's  gooey"... love it!

Producer Tasting Note

Nose: Honeyed almonds, juicy cherries and a lick of salt cutting through the sweetness.

Palate: Sweet and rich at first with a burst of sharp cranberries and more of those honey flavours.

Finish: A touch of cinnamon and a peppercorn spice, all mingling with the honey, which prevails until the end.

That Boutique-y Whisky Company (TBWC) is part of the Atom Group, which also owns the UK retailer Master of Malt and a number of other subsidiaries. They are a dynamic and innovative firm, who by example invented the Whisky Advent Calendar concept. Established in 2012, TBWC is famous for its playful and colourful labels, which often feature prominent whisky industry figures, tell a story, and or elude to an inside joke. The labels are typically laced with hidden elements and "Easter Eggs."

TBWC bottles whiskies from around the world, though the bulk of their offerings are of Scottish origin. Most of their offerings are small-batch releases, Blended Malts, and Blends. Their "Head of Whisky" is Canadian Sam Simmons.

We are big fans of not only their whimsical labels but also the consistently high standard of liquid they bottle.
