Constantia Uitsig is located in what can be described as the "Cradle of winemaking" in the Cape and has a long history, being part of the first wine-producing estate in South Africa, dating back to the mid-1600s. Its unique position means that its vines benefit from the cool sea breezes, providing natural acidity and brilliant ageing ability, as well as Cape Town’s Mediterranean climate, with its rainy winters and long, dry summers. This position has made for the perfect grape growing conditions, with vines rooted in 200-million-year-old, well-composed, well-drained granite with a high clay content, ensuring excellent water retention. The wine features a complex nose that leads with tangerine and melon aromas underlined by a fresh minerality. This is followed by yellow summer fruit flavours on the palate, finished with delicate hits of Granny Smith apples and Meyer lemon.

Constantia Uitsig's Unwooded Chardonnay is whole-bunch-pressed and fermented in concrete tanks. 2/3 of the resulting wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is left on the lees for three months before blending, filtering and bottling. The grapes are hand-harvested, crushed, and destemmed before the juice is clarified and inoculated with yeast.
Try pairing it with sushi, seafood salad, raw oysters, or pasta with chicken in an alfredo sauce.
