So, this is a curiosity. Reputedly a 4th Fill Butt, but the colour... surely a second fill or a week first fill. But 4th Fill, not a chance. This Summer 2018 bottling has been bottled at 53.3%, after 25ish years in a 4th Fill Sherry Butt (supposedly). 86pts Whisky Fun and averaging almost 92/100 on Whisky Base.

Andrew's Tasting Note

Nose: definitely not what I was expecting; at first I had barnyard-y note, strange for a whisky of this age; linseed oil, mezcal and an old leather sofa polished with a rejuvenating cream; it takes some time but the nose settles down in to candied nuts, brown sugar and burnt orange; there is a creamy, buttery base with some volatile acids.

Palate: juicy, fruity and creamy; the palate rolls out more elegantly and delicately than the nose; it picks up as you move along with Russian caramel, candied nuts and more polished leather; the oak spices build into ginger, cinnamon and fennel; a touch of honeycomb and candied cherries.

Finish: warming, spicy and decadent; medium long with more caramel, candied fruit and spices.

Comment: a hate to admit I had hoped for a little more; while the palate mostly redeems it, the nose is not great; thought it does settle down; definitely not your typical Glenfarclas!
