Old Overholt was once the cream of the crop for rye whiskey. Its tale stretches back to 1800 when the Overholt family, farmers and weavers by trade, settled in what would come to be known as West Overton. In 1803 the family added a small still to the farm's operations and began turning out small quantities of rye whiskey. The product was great and demand bloomed. The spirit was held in high enough esteem that it was one of the few to survive the devastating impact of Prohibition. Fast forward to present day and we still see the face of old Abraham Overholt staring out at us from the label of this 40% straight rye. The whiskey may be coming out of Kentucky now, instead of Pennsylvania, but the sweet and spicy character is still intact. Old Overholt was said to be a favorite Doc Holliday, Ulysses S. Grant and JFK.
