The classic expression of Kornog single malt from Glann Ar Mor Distillery in Brittany France. This peated French single malt is matured in Ex-Bourbon and bottled at 46%.
Producer Description
"This is the traditional bottling of Kornog at 46% from Bourbon barrels without chill filtering nor caramel colouring as always with us. The peat and the maritime character mingle in a surprising complexity. Kornog is the peated expression (40 PPM of phenols) of Glann ar Mor Distillery, beside Glann ar Mor itself which is the un-peated expression."
700ml mlAndrew's Tasting Note
Nose: big, rich, nutty and sugary with prominent citrus and brooding smoke in background; softens to Jujubes and Lifesavers.
Palate: big, nutty, sugary, salty and oaky; there is a firm base of chewy-grassy malt, firm but yielding smoke and bright citrus; more Jujubes and Lifesavers with building spice and almond brittle.
Finish: big, bold coating and long; the sugary, malty smoky tones linger longest with more bright citrus.
Comment: my first taste of Kornog in years, more mature and developed; could be confused with an Islay malt.
Evan's Tasting Note
Nose: Phenolic, oily, spicy and juicy with chamomile, vanilla, poached pear, parma violets, grilled lemons and elderflower.
Palate: Citrus and spice plus sweet with vanilla, salt and brine, black pepper, limestone and other minerals.
Finish: Oily and smokey with lingering salt and sweet citrus.
Comment: This distillery and its owner's love for peated whisky shows in this whisky along with the fact that they hope to have their own distillery built on Islay one day soon!
