Situated in Mazan, (Vaucluse county,) the Château la Croix des Pins boast a micro-climate due to its ideal location between the Mont Ventoux and Les Dentelles de Montmirail in an area classified as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. It's a blend of Grenache 55%, Syrah 35% and Mourvèdre. It's a spicy, zesty affair with subtle black and red fruit notes and hints of garrigues. Excellent value!

La Croix des Pins is a co-operation located in Southern Rhone, in areas such as Ventoux, Vacqueryas, and, in this case, Gigondas. This vineyard is between 300 and 350 m of altitude in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail, a mountainous area in Southern Rhone. The soil is clay-limestone and the vineyards sit along some sunswept hillsides, where the grapes ripen easily. This wine is predominantly Grenache, with other Rhone varietals blended in. The wine is full of black cherry and candied raspberries, with a touch of minerality and licorice coming through on the palate.

Stephane Usseglio produces wines under his own label and is now in charge of winemaking at his family's domaine, Raymond Usseglio & Fils. It's a blend of 70% old vine Grenache from 80-year-old plus vines, along with some old vine Syrah and Cinsault. Lirac is situated opposite Chateauneuf-du-Pape on the opposite side of the Rhone River (hence the name, which translates to "the other shore"). The best examples of Lirac, like this one, can give Chateauneuf a run for considerably less money.
