The Meinklang vineyards are found in eastern Austria close to the Hungarian border. Gruner Veltliner, Austria's darling white grape varietal, is making Burgundian Chardonnays look positively bland and has wowed wine critics internationally for it's great food-matching credentials. Full of the flavours of green apple and citrus, with a white pepper finish, it offers a wonderful hit of mineral freshness. This wine is made entirely from Grüner Veltliner grown on sandy loam. The grapes are gently pressed into stainless steel where they ferment and age on lees for a short period of time. The wine goes through a loose filter before being bottled with 90ppm total Sulphur. 11% ABV

Meinklang is a leader in biodynamic viticulture in Austria. The Meinklang vineyards are found in eastern Austria close to the Hungarian border. This gutsy red is a blend of Blaufrankisch (50%), Zweigelt (40%), and Sankt Laurent (10%) planted on sandy loam with shallow rocky topsoil. The grapes are partially destemmed into stainless steel where fermentation is carried out semi-carbonically. The wine then rests for six months in tank before being racked and bottled with 30ppm of sulphur. 12% ABV

In just a few years, Markus Huber has successfully established his winery as a showcase enterprise in Austria as a wine producing country. His distinctive, top-quality wines, grown on outstanding soils of lime and conglomerate, serve as an example of the very best of the Traisental Valley – full of character, clear in style and site-related minerality. The family’s highest priority is to work without compromise in the vineyards and in the cellar for premium quality. The vineyards are cultivated according to organic guidelines and the entire winery is certified according to the “Sustainable Austria” criteria. This vineyard occupies a steep, east-facing, terraced slope with a gradient of more than 25%. The soil, which overlies calcareous conglomerate of the Hollenburg-Karlstetten Formation, is very meager with only a thin layer of humus.

The Huber family has wine growing roots dating back more than 220 years. Today the winery in Reichersdorf is in its 10th generation, run by Markus Huber. In 2000 Markus took over four hectares from his father which, up to that point, had been farmed to produce the wines served in his family restaurant. There is hardly another vineyard that has shaped the perception of the Wachau as a serious high-quality wine-growing region as strongly as that of the Knoll family. Many generations of this family have dedicated their lives to growing wine: the first glass bottles were filled with Knoll wine in the 1950s, and the arguably most famous wine label in Austria – the family’s trademark baroque image of Saint Urban – first graced the Knoll wine bottles in 1962.
The family cultivates wine on sixteen hectares, and the names of his terraces have become common knowledge among both national and international wine drinkers: the Kellerberg, Loibenberg, Pfaffenberg and especially the Schütt yield the fruit for the famous range of Knoll Riesling and Veltliner, which are all clear, precise, mineral-rich and structured, frequently revealing their full potential after years or even decades.
