The 12 Year Old release from Glengyle distillery in Campbeltown has been matured in 70% Bourbon casks and 30% Sherry casks. It has been bottled at 46%. The whisky is made with lightly peated malt, 12-15ppm.

Nose: Notes of sweet confectionery introduce this dram, with Turkish delight, pear drops and marzipan apparent on the nose. There are hints of subtle peat smoke, like toasted marshmallows by a campfire.
Palate: Initially zesty with citrus notes of lemon cheesecake and an oiliness typical of a Campbeltown whisky. Peat smoke, leather bound books and peppery, spicy notes develop over time, along with sweet sticky toffee pudding.
Finish: The peat smoke carries through to the finish in campfire embers, with sweet hints of pecan pie and butterscotch.

Evan deserves the credit for sleuthing out this new KWM exclusive Campbeltown Blended Malt. We tried a sample early in the fall, and were suitably impressed by it for the price. 10 years of age and 50.7%.
If the rumours can be believed, the whisky is a marriage of Springbank from 1994 and 2015, with Glen Scotia from 1992. But true to form the chap at North Star Spirits has little to say about about it on the record, the official product description "Our own mix of Springbank, Glen Scotia, and other Campbeltown Malts" seemingly raises more questions than it answers.
But perhaps this is a time to not look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth. We have here a 10 year old Campbeltown Blended Malt at just over 50%, with a beautiful label, and the price is very reasonable!

Limit 2 Per Customer! The 2011 Winter Batch Release was bottled in 2024 from 27 first fill ex-Bourbon Barrels. The spirit was made from Publican barley, harvested in August of 2009 and malted in 2010. The casks were filled in December of 2011 and bottled in 2024. 46%.

Ardnamurchan is unquestionably one of the most exciting young distilleries in Scotland. The whisky is rough-and-tumble old school highland malt. In other words, exactly what we love in young whisky. Expect a wee bit of peat with this one.

"Our Single Malt whisky comprises an equal proportion of peated and unpeated malt. The cask makeup is 65% ex bourbon barrels from Kentucky and 35% ex sherry casks, Oloroso and PX, from Jerez."
