Youthful and playful nose that showcases fresh berries and very little secondary aromas. There is a little bit of spicy complimented by mild, savoury herbs. The stainless steel fermentation allows the fruit flavours to be showcased, with no oak flavours. Medium bodied, with a nice balance of acidity and tannin. Not overly complex on the palate, but the fresh brambly berry and black cherry keep it lively and easy to drink. Grenache (Garnacha) is a generally crowd pleasing grape, with not a lot of overt or obtuse flavours. A lovely soft, slightly spicy, red berry flavour profile makes it a perfect weekday wine. The finish is subtle and fresh. A versatile wine with lots of different pairing options, from mild cheeses, pulled pork with a sweet BBQ sauce, or roasted chicken with a savoury rub.

Clean and bright wine where beautiful raspberry tones dominate, which is surprising for a red wine. It is fresh and sound on nose, with a good intensity; notes of blackberries and violets stand out. On palate it has a fresh, fruity attack that is proof of its origin from high-altitude vineyards. It has a very pleasant mid-palate, and it is a light and very easy-drinking wine.

This wine is named "The Custodian" because of d'Arry Osborn's stubborn resistance at keeping vineyards planted with Grenache in the 1980s when the grape wasn't very popular, That move has since paid off as producer D'Arenberg now has just about 1/3rd of all old bush vine Grenache plantings left in the McLaren Vale and those vines are responsible for this wine which showcases plenty of character, bright acidity and plenty of fruit balanced by silky tannins.
