Exclusive in Alberta to KWM, this 1993 distilled Springbank was bottled in 2015 after 22 years at 51.8%. Only 150 bottles came from the cask.
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: beeswax candles, kerosene lamp smoke, salt water toffee and dried apricots; prominent smoke with rhubarb jam and apple pie baked with cinnamon; a slightly unusual Springbank nose but enticing.
Palate: still very creamy and waxy on the palate, loads of smoke, salt and a sooty ash (thinking of a kerosene lamp again and beeswax candles); very buttery, powerful peat smoke and loads of fruit: more dried apricots, ripe melons and pineapple; more of a seared apple flan than pie, though the spice is still there with more jammy fruit: strawberry-rhubarb.
Finish: long, smoky and coating with more waxy honey notes and baked fruits.
Comment: this Springbank has some serious legs to it, reminiscent of the older distillery bottled 21s but with more powerful earthy smoke; I can see this going down a little too quickly!
