Pittyvaich was one of the shortest lived distilleries in Scotland's history, opperating from 1975 until just 1993. This is only the 2nd ever official bottling from the distillery, part of Diageo's 2015 Special Releases. Filled into Refill American oak casks in 1989, 6000 bottles were filled at 49.9%. Only 6 bottles coming to KWM!
Producer's Tasting Note
Nose: Firm, honey-sweet fermented malt laced with almond oil set the tone before quickly becoming complex, with delicate fruity notes and a soft cushion of vanilla sponge and custard beneath.
Palate: Treacle toffee cut by green apple crispness: sweet and cooling, with light acidity developing into a warm nuttiness, still oily and malty as on the nose, with that balancing sharpness.
Finish: Slightly pungent and herbal with a hint of peat; later drying, with a heather honey aftertaste. Milder with water: still sweet and gently oily with balancing bitterness; spicy and faintly aromatic.
Note: Established in 1975 and closed in 1993, the product of this short-lived Speyside distillery is rarely seen as a Single Malt Scotch Whisky and this bottling has lived longer than the distillery itself.
