This Argentine Malbec is a Kensington Wine Market exclusive and a staff favourite here at the store! Guillermo García Lamadrid and Hector Durigutti, master winemaker and general manager, have collaborated to produce an affordable and utterly delicious Malbec. Big, jammy, and wallet-friendly, this is one to buy by the case for your favourite house red, or to share with friends at your next big bash. Pair with anything big and beefy — Argentine Asado, burgers, or spaghetti and meatballs.
750ml mlThis Malbec vineyard was planted in 1999 and the wine was given the same treatment as the Agrelo Cabernet insofar as aging and fermentation are concerned. It displays a deep ruby colour with violet reflections followed by a core of summer berries, along with cassis and soft, fleshy blueberries.
Lamadrid founder Guillermo García built the Lamadrid winery in one of the oldest and foremost growing regions in Argentina: Agrelo, Mendoza. Héctor and Pablo Durigutti are partners with Guillermo and have assisted in the hand-crafted wines since the first vintage in 2005.
Lamadrid’s mission is to be the best representation of the Agrelo terroir and their philosophy is “Wine Is Made In The Vineyard, Let The Terroir Speak For Itself.” Lamadrid owns three vineyards in Agrelo: Finca La Matilde (planted 1929), Finca Lamadrid (1973), and Finca La Suiza (2004). Their wines are all estate-grown from one of these single vineyards, and follow organic and sustainable farming practices and are unfiltered.

Guillermo García Lamadrid began this project in 2004 by opening the door to wine growing in Argentina, from the lands of Agrelo in Luján de Cuyo, one of the first regions in Argentina to embrace Malbec. He partnered with winemaker Pablo Durigutti to produce a range of wines that run the gamut from good value to single vineyard examples from their oldest vineyard sites.

The Heartland story began in the late 1990s when winemaker Ben Glaetzer became excited about the outstanding quality of fruit being grown in some of South Australia’s lesser-known regions, in particular Langhorne Creek.
Together with industry veterans Scott Collett, Grant Tilbroo, and more recently Nick Keukenmeester, they grew Heartland into an award-winning winery. Ben Glaetzer makes Heartland Wines at Barossa Vintners in Tanunda, South Australia, some 100 kilometres from Langhorne Creek. The winery was conceived as a state-of-the-art winemaking facility with the capacity to make wines for a core group of top-end producers whose fame and demand had grown beyond their winemaking capacities. Completed in 1995, Barossa Vintners was developed to make wines in the most natural possible way. The natural slope of the land allows the winery to be gravity fed and avoid a harsh pumping of the grapes juice (Ben also makes his range of Glaetzer wines at this facility, most famously his Amon-ra Shiraz). The growing conditions in Langhorne Creek are predominantly shaped by the onshore southerly winds blowing directly from the Southern Ocean across Lake Alexandrina. The prevailing southerlies reduce daytime temperature fluctuations, making it one of the cooler growing regions in South Australia

Unfined, unfiltered and, according to Barnivore, vegan-friendly. Look for a deep purple red colour- spicy to the nose with clove, fresh berries, plum and raspberry notes. It shows a soft palate with a long and persistent finish. As far as food pairings go, go for food with richness; Grilled Alberta Beef, Wild Boar, hearty stews and lamb chops.

Hector and Pablo Durigutti were born in Mendoza, the cradle of Argentinian wine and were raised together. Their childhood and their home were always connected to a sensorial world, with aromas, ingredients and flavours that, over time, motivated them to choose the path to become enologists. As adults, they would find these familiar memories and similar passions. In 2002 they dedicated their efforts to the creation of a small family winey. Today the brothers have evolved to form a new generation of winemakers, leading an evolutionary change in Argentina’s viticulture. Smoky, toasty, and minty aromas fill the air, but as this wine opens up, we find well-developed red and black fruits like black cherry and raspberry.
