"Tequila Ocho takes the exploration of terroir in tequila a giant step forward by producing batches of tequila from single fields (ranchos), much the way fine Burgundy wine is produced. For example, in the village of Vosne Romanee in Burgundy, wine is produced with the following appellations: Les Beaux Monts, La Montagne and Aux Brulees to name a few. Tequila Ocho has done the same thing by producing in Arandas the following names: El Carrizal, Las Pomez and Los Corrales," according to the distillery team. "Los Fresnos is between 2068m and 2078m above sea level with red oxide soil. It is located adjacent to La Alteña, the distillery where Ocho is made. This is West of Arandas, near the town of Jesus Maria. Los Fresnos is a large field with Ocho production using around 1/3 of its size."
Tasting notes from the distillery for the Los Fresnos Reposado:
Color – Pale straw.
Aroma – Extra ripe cooked agave, butterscotch, toffee, banana, apple, pancake batter, pepper, vanilla cake frosting.
Palate – Hint of mint, green chlorophyll, mineral, maple, coffee, caramel, toffee, and strawberry.
