The Nectar D'Or, like the rest of the Extra Matured range, is matured in American oak Ex-Bourbon barrels before finishing for two years in French Sauternes wine barriques.

"This whisky was born from the memory of entering a pastry shop for the very first time. It’s about that first moment of finding your senses deliciously overwhelmed, breathing in the sweet scents and wishing you could take a bite of every creamy, flaky treat you see. In Nectar D’Or you can taste it all. To create it, we take the delicate, fruity spirit of our giraffe-high stills and age it in American oak bourbon casks along with casks that once held Sauternes sweet white wine. The outcome is like a silky dessert-filled daydream of white chocolate swirled with lemon cream, crème caramel, almond croissants... all balanced by a soft drumbeat of spice. Each sip is like sending your senses on holiday to a French patisserie."

Aroma: Lemon tart emerges with vanilla, lime and orange zest. Sultanas and dates follow, laced with ginger and coconut..
Taste: Warming gingerbread gives way to nutmeg and toasted almonds, entwined with meringue and honeycomb.
Finish: Sweet and mellow, balancing lemon zest, vanilla cream and final traces of ginger and nutmeg.

The new Nectar' D'Or has some age on it... 16 years, and the cask makeup has been tweaked too. After maturing 14 years in ex-Bourbon, the whisky is now finished for a further two in a marriage of four different sweet wine cask types: Sauternes, Monbazillac, Moscatel, and Tokaji. 46%

"For extra depth and creaminess, silky Glenmorangie aged for 14 years in bourbon casks was selected. The whisky was then finished for two more years in a new combination of sweet white wine casks.
"Sauternes and Monbazillac casks from France bring sumptuous notes of pastry, brioche, meringue and baked apples. Moscatel casks from Spain offer sweet, syrupy dessert-like notes. And Tokaji casks from Hungary, add white chocolate, almond and honeycomb flavours to their creation."

The Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban recently evolved from a 12 year old, into a 14 Year. Matured initially in ex-Bourbon, the wine is finished in Port casks before bottling at 46%. This whisky is replete with notes of chocolate and orange, which is derived from the finishing in port casks.
Producer Tasting Note
Aroma: Dark mint chocolate and Seville oranges mingle with sandalwood and walnut, with a spicy finish of pepper and nutmeg.
Taste: Mint chocolate and walnuts envelop the palate, laying the foundations for rose, Turkish delight and sweet Seville oranges.
Finish: Long-lasting, silky aftertaste leaving dark chocolate mints and traces of orange.
Andrew's Tasting Note - on the 12 Year
Nose: dried cherry and cranberry leap out of the glass; some musty old wood with dark chocolate, prune juice and cooked dates.
Palate: big, nutty and wood; more dark chocolate with some firm old leather and sweet Cuban tobacco; the musty old wood is still there with some licorice nibs and decadent spice.
Finish: medium-long and warming; the spicy oak holds on with a touch of chilli heat.
Comment: I forgot how interesting this whisky is; I am not generally a fan of Port matured or finished whiskies, but this one is good!

The whisky begins with a base of the same spirit that goes into Glenmorangie Original, 10 year old whisky matured exclusively in American oak Ex-Bourbon casks. The whisky is then finished for 2 years in Oloroso Sherry casks from Jerez, Spain.
From the Distillery: Lasanta is Gaelic for warmth and passion, a reminder not just of the Spanish provenance of these Oloroso sherry butts, but also a reflection of this expressions lusciously soft texture and deep, enticingly sweet aroma.Non chill-filtered for additional aroma and mouthfeel."
