In 1693 in the outer Hebrides Martin Martin encountered a quadruple distilled spirit called "usquebaugh-baul" or "perilous whisky": "two spoonfuls of this last liquor is a sufficient dose; and if any man should exceed this, it would presently stop his breath, and endanger his life." X4 although potent, is not quite so dangerous as that which Martin Martin sampled, that said it packs a punch. On Islay in September 2008 my reaction was simply: "Wow!"OTHER ml
