Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve

Price recently dropped over $100CDN, but here is the crazy thing... in Ireland it goes for €850.00!

Rarest Vintage Reserve is a blend, like the other Jameson whiskeys, consisting of older grain whiskeys in addition to pure pot still whiskey (containing both malted and unmalted barley), some of which was aged entirely in ruby port casks (with the rest matured in second fill bourbon casks). The grain whiskey is 23-24 years old, with the pot still component being slightly younger. The whiskey is bottled at 46% and is not chill-filtered!

Andrew's Tasting Note

Nose: right from go this smells mature; musty old oak, chocolate, coconut cream icing sugar, orange marzipan and crème caramel; cold tea dregs with Demerara sugar; a touch of tobacco and firm new leather.

Palate: rich, fruity and mature with a silky delivery; the Irish Single Pot character dominates the palate with more crème caramel, dulce de leche, soft leather and tobacco; layers of fruit on the palate, apple, pear, melons, browning banana and more tropical fruits; soft peppery spice and more cold tea dregs.

Finish: long, coating, creamy and very, very fruity; decadent caramels fade in to leather, tobacco, spices and bags of fruit.

Comment: very, very elegant; there is a reason this is one of the pinnacles of Irish whiskey!
