Carm is part of the Roboredo Madeira winery group, (as are our Vinha da Urze wines), a company that has been producing wine and olive oil since the 17th century. The wine is vinified in Carm's Winery at Quinta das Marvalhas in Almendra, in the heart of Douro Superior. It's a blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional, the trio of red grapes that form the backbone of many Port wines. It's aged in both French and American oak barrels for eight months prior to bottling. Look for expressions of blackberries, mulberry, and black cherry followed by the seductive flavours of black figs and licorice. There's a hint of toasted oak on the palate.

Vale Meão is a historic Quinta that is now one of the front runners in the Douro table wine revolution. Made from a blend of 38% Touriga Nacional, 30% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Roriz and 12% other varieties, it shows a deep lively color. Look for floral scents combined with red fruit aromas. It fills the mouth with intense fruit notes, showing a long, very fresh and complex after taste.

While the Douro is particularly renowned for its Ports, of course, it is also home to many fantastic table wine producers, such as Rui Roboredo Madeira, the maker of this white blend. "Quinta da Pedra Escrita estate is located in Freixo de Numão - Douro Superior, with an average altitude of 575 meters. The windy and dry soils of the Estate are predominantly of granite, sandy and very poor in nutrients. Here I grew my first vineyards, always believing that the granite soils give us wines with highly complex aromas and great longevity, like in the old times."
