About Madeira
Madeira is a fortified wine style that originated on the Portuguese Island of Madeira, which resides off the coast of Portugal and Morrocco. What makes Madeira unique as a wine style is that it is intentionally "spoiled" during ageing by being heated and oxidized. This gives Madeira its unique, nutty flavour and also makes it incredibly age-worthy. There are many different styles of Madeira ranging from dry to sweet and it can be made with the following grape varieties: Tinta Negra Mole, Sercial, Verdelho, Bual/Boal, and Malvasia/Malmsey.
