The Macallan Sherry Oak 12 Year has returned to Canada for the first time in what seems like a decade. It is limited, and it might be a while until we see it again. Matured exclusively in hand-picked, sherry-seasoned oak casks from Jerez, Spain. 43%. It has also taken our Scotch Guy by surprise, exceeding his expectations.

Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: nutty with Werther's Originals, charred oak, and fresh-cut cedar; dark chocolate and espresso beans; fig jam and maple syrup; soft new leather gloves and fruity cigar tobacco; candied nuts: peanuts, cashews, and walnuts.
Palate: big, rich, and nutty with dark fruits, leather, and tobacco; moving towards Christmas cake with more Werther's Original; licorice Jujubes, fig jam, and quince paste; more candied nuts, leather, and tobacco; toasted oak and burnt cedar; delicate, but decadent spice.
Finish: long, soft, and elegant; fruity, nutty, and spicy with loads of toasted oak.
Comment: I'm surprised and impressed by how decent this is; it is a tad pricey, but it is just a 12 year old, and it has good complexity at that; I have to admit it has more than surpassed my expectations; well done Macallan, you've got my attention!

Nose: complex with hints of vanilla.
Palate: smooth, medium balanced with fruit, oak and spice.
Finish: long with sweet dried fruits, oak and spice.

The 5th release in the Macallan Harmony Collection was bottled at 43.9% after maturing in Sherry and Bourbon casks.

The 2025 release of Classic Cut, the 9th, has been bottled at 50.6%. Matured in sherry seasoned European and American oak, and ex-Bourbon casks.

Decadent Drams has bottled another Marketing Malt (cough Macallan), and this one is a not so subtle dig at the distillery's 200th Anniversary releases which someone else, we won't say whom, described as resembling a Space Anus. This 16 Year old was bottled at 53% from a 1st Fill Sherry Hogshead originally filled in 2008. Limit 1 Per Customer!

A few years ago, this bottle was only available at 40% ABV. Then, they bumped it up to 43%. Now, we have it at 46%!
Will this pattern hold? Will we see Edradour's flagship bottle released at 70%-plus ABV a few decades from now? Probably not.

"The ten year old Edradour is handmade and one of the last Single Malt Whiskies from a traditional farm distillery still in production today. The methods of production remain virtually unchanged in the last 150 years and are only just capable of commercial quantities. Indeed Edradour Distillery makes as much whisky in a year as most distilleries produce in a week. A rare pleasure for a fortunate few.
