Ilya pursued his Oenology & Viticulture degree in Niagara and fell in love with the local wine scene & terroir. After several years as a winemaker in the region, he staked his reputation on an unknown vineyard to showcase his winemaking skills.
750 mlThis blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah - named Cuvee Winona - always over-delivers for the price. From the moderate and beautiful 2023 vintage, blackberry, cassis, raspberry and mulberry instantly steal the show, with mossy/bramble, graphite, inkwell and oregano following closely behind. On the palate, the fullness, weight and structure are impressive, with the ripeness of the vintage shining through. A lovely, mid-weight palate featuring plum and wild-strawberry is layered over coffee, tan-leather, cured meat and black olive fading in and out. The powerful but soft tannins make it satisfying to drink now with a good decant, but it will certainly age well over the next 5-8 years. Great with burgers, cured meat, and hard cheese.
