Exclusive to KWM in Canada!
We ourselves some Dailuaine here at KWM. It's waxy and fruity profile seems to be showcased incredibly well in ex-Bourbon casks, which is why we jumped at the chance to have this as an exclusive. Distilled in 2009, this single cask spent 13 years maturing in a Hogshead (#315772) before being bottled at 52.9%. We only managed to get a fraction of the outturn, which was a miniscule 100 bottles!
About The Whisky Trail
"The Whisky Trail is a collection of young and old casks, taking drinkers off the beaten path of whisky. Only whiskies that demonstrate the most exceptional characteristics are hand-selected to be bottled as part of the Whisky Trail range, and with each cask as unique as a fingerprint, no two expressions will ever be the same. To ensure each whisky maintains its full flavour and cask character, we never chill-filter or add colour."
700 mlAndrew's Tasting Note
Nose: soft, floral, and fruity with a subtle toasty oak profile; Junior Caramels, peppermint chocolates, and a touch of cold French butter; macadamias and cashews; tart Granny Smith apples and a hint of more exotic fruits.
Palate: bright, malty, and waxy with toasted oak and floral top notes; very nutty, mora macadamia nuts, cashews, and lightly salted Marcona almonds; more tart green apple, bitter orange, and grapefruit pith; raw cocoa nibs and goats milk white chocolate; a touch of cheesy funk to top things off.
Finish: light, fresh, floral, and waxy with subtle orchard fruits and a hint of cheesy funk.
Comment: this is a very naked and slightly funky Dailuaine, and it needs a little time to breathe and coax out the fruit notes; pour it in a snifter, and apply patience!
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Green apples and melted milk chocolate buttons upfront with a rich nuttiness coming through. A hint of milky coffee with almonds and walnuts.
Palate: Beautifully balanced with chocolate limes and ripe kiwi fruit. Notes of raspberry jam come in suggesting flavours of a freshly baked chocolate roulade.
Finish: Lingering cocoa bean with a hint of aniseed and a lovely citrus edge.
