About The Whisky Trail
"This Whisky Trail range has been inspired by Scotland’s 2003 Land Reform Act: Freedom to Roam. This Act gives everyone the right to access the countryside for recreational and educational purposes. There are 28 single cask bottlings that are a part of this range, and highlight the scenes found while exploring Scotland’s awe-inspiring landscape. Only whiskies that demonstrate the most exceptional characteristics are bottled as part of the Whisky Trail range - each cask as unique as a fingerprint, no two expressions will ever be the same. To ensure each whisky maintains its full flavour and cask character, we never chill-filter or add colour."
About The Highland Cows (Coos)
"Highland Cows are known for their physical attributes and being indigenous to Scotland. They are viewed as symbols of Scotland’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty."
700 mlAndrew's Tasting Note
Nose: thick, honeyed, doughy, and fruity; bursting with exotic fruits... passion fruit, acai berries, pomegranate, and plantains; creamed heather and Manuka honeys; fresh raspberries on dark chocolate cake; crème Brulé and panna cotta; French crêpes dusted in powdered sugar and drizzled with lemon juice; more than a little antique-y.
Palate: round, coating, and toasty with layers of fruit, honey, and delicate spice; more passion fruit, acai berries, and plantains; old-fashioned doughnuts, bread and butter pudding, Honey Nut Cornflakes, and Dulce de leche; more French crêpes with powdered sugar and lemon juice; flowerless dark chocolate cake with sea salt and fresh raspberries; Manuka honey, soft new leather, and a touch of tobacco; cinnamon toast and ginger molasses cookies kick off the spices which build into cloves and fennel seed; earthy and antique-y at the back end, with sauteed mushrooms, vellichor, and a musty dunnage warehouse note.
Finish: long, coating, and antique-y with layers of fruit, sweet treats, and decadent spice; ending in musty old warehouses and more vellichor.
Comment: it needs time in the glass to express itself, but your patience will be rewarded; I was expecting another Edrington-esque, sherry forward Blended Malt, but this is something altogether different; if I had to guess, I would wager that this liquid's origins probably trace back to William Grants; but is it Balfiddich or Glenvenie? We'll likely never know... but it is a lovely old antique-y malt at a very fair price!
