Producers Description:
Our Westie Sponge series continues from strength to strength with the latest edition being a 1995, 29 year old Ledaig from a refill sherry butt. This is a terrific cask, with great old school sherry character and loads of maturing. It’s also pretty coastal, waxy and old style, the sort of dram that’s very hard to find nowadays. We were delighted to find this cask and thought it was the perfect representation for the Isle of Mull in our Westie Sponge series.
700 mlProducers Tasting Notes:
Nose: a beautifully mature sherried profile, with layered dark fruits, waxes, gamey and leathery notes and also more coastal aspects, mineral oils and a trace thread of something peaty.
Palate: superbly rich and mouth-filling. More of these combinations of dark fruits, dark chocolate with sea salt, waxes, tiger balm and herbal liqueurs. Gorgeous, intricate and hugely satisfying and complex.
Finish: very long, full of rancio, tobacco, dark chocolate, waxes and resinous fir wood notes.
