John Bergström left a small village in Northern Sweden to live the American dream in Oregon. He became a surgeon and started a family with his wife, Karen. Together, they wanted to start a business that would become a legacy for their five children and pay tribute to John’s agricultural, Swedish upbringing. With these dreams in mind, the couple moved from Portland to Dundee, where they planted the Bergström Vineyard on a gentle, 13-acre, south-facing slope overlooking the wide expanse of the Willamette Valley. In 1999, Josh, the fourth of the five children, returned home from Burgundy where he undertook a postgraduate program in Viticulture and Enology. His fiancée, Caroline, joined him and they married in the Bergström Vineyard that fall. Together, they established a flourishing business of five estate vineyards, totalling 84 acres: The Bergström Vineyard, Silice Vineyard, Winery Block, Gregory Ranch and Le Pré du Col. Each estate vineyard is farmed without the use of harsh chemicals or fertilizers.
