This whisky was named Blended Malt Whisky of the Year in 2010 by Whisky Magazine. Peppery and salty with prunes, dried orange, walnut and ginger. Available sporadically in very limited quantities.

Nikka's founder Masataka Taketsuru travelled to Scotland in 1918 to learn whisky making. He studied Organic Chemistry and worked for a number of Scottish distilleries. For a short while he and his Scottish wife settled in Campbeltown where he worked for Hazelburn distillery. After returning to Japan he helped Shinjiro Torrii establish Yamazaki. In 1934 he opened his first distillery, Yoichi on Hokkaido.
