Posted on May 2, 2014

Hunter ably guided our guests through and introductory single malt tasting at Kensington Wine Market, which included some exciting new whiskies, including a couple of KWM exclusive casks.

  1. Hepburn's Choice Auchentoshan 11 Year - 46% - KWM Exclusive - A splash of summer, floral, grassy & perfumed, reminiscient of frolicking in a field in bloom. - $84.99

  2. Hepburn's Choice Braeval 12 Year - 46% - KWM Exclusive - A nose rich with nuttiness, hazelnuts, brazil and cashews galore. To taste brings rum raisins and coffee cake, invokes thoughts of port. - $87.99

  3. Aberlour 18 - 43% - A showcase of sherry. Dark fruits scattered atop a helping of good old christmas cake. The standard sherry affair, this one was very well rounded. - $103.99

  4. Duncan Taylor Deanston 1994 KWM Octave - 54.7% - 19 Year - KWM Exclusive - Starting with a profound baking spice nose, it draws you in to show off a decadent display of cinnamon, chewy toffee, and molasses cookies. - $189.99

  5. Duncan Taylor Mortlach 1995 KWM Octave - 55.4% - 18 Year - KWM Exclusive - An earthy nose, wet oak and mud mixing together; once tasted a new face emerges of dense gingerbread, jube jubes and sticky toffee pudding. Definitely a dessert whisky. - $174.99

  6. Glen Scotia 21 Year - 46% - A brine laden coastal delight, showing off sea salt, a soft ashen smoke followed up by tinned peaches and slivers of tropical fruit. Don't let the package fool you, this is a treasure in disguise. - $145.99

  7. Kilchoman KWM Cask 326 - 60.1% - For the peat lovers out there, this is the typhoon out of Islay. Big smoke and brine roiling in a peat bog bath all exploding in an awe inspiring display. Akin to brimstone surfacing from the depths of earth, only in a more appealing sense. - $119.99
