Tether is a project that combines the efforts and skill of winemaker Anna Monticelli and the negociant/wine broker extraordinaire Kimberly Jones. Using grapes sourced from a variety of regions within Napa Valley, this big red is composed of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Malbec aged in 50% new French Oak for 18 months. It's a bold and structured wine, with plush tannins and a long, lingering finish. Expect notes of ripe bramble berries, plum, wild haskapp berries, as well as rich cocoa, freshly brewed coffee and baking spices. A great wine to enjoy over a meat-focused dinner.

Made by the famous Rhone winemaker, Pierre Gaillard, Operation Dragoon (made in honour of the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Southern France in August 1944, which liberated the area from Marseille to Dijon in just 4 weeks) is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. Expect fresh wild strawberries and herbs de Provence with a hint of smoked meat and lavender on the finish. It possesses fine tannins and bright acidy, a very pure expression of a Rhone Valley wine. Patria (which translates to Homeland) is made from fruit sourced from Oakville Ranch, one of the highest-elevation vineyards within Napa Valley, The wine itself is a classic Bordeaux blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. The result is a wine with fierce complexity, bold structure and plush tannins. Aromatic notes of blackberry, black licorice, herbes de Provence and raspberry cordial prevail followed by flavours of roasted plums, pipe tobacco, black currants and cocoa nibs. Dense and with a long life ahead, if cracking within the next year, give it an hour decant before serving. Serve with your favourite beef short rib recipe or a classic American burger.

If you're a fan of big, rich Napa Valley oaked Chardonnay and looking for more elegance and oak integration, this is the wine for you. Although Tether might not be as recognizable in Canada as some of the other famous Napa Chard labels, this is a small production winery to watch for (only 582 cases produced)! The Tether Chardonnay is full-bodied and balanced with a never-ending finish. The wine spends 17 months in French oak, creating notes of toasted coconut and lots of texture. Situated just outside of the village of Maury in Southern France, Domaine Courier is a blend of fruit from century-old Carignan vines and 70-year old Grenache vines. The older, low-yielding vines deliver concentrated, dark and flavourful fruit that was aged in large casks for three years before bottling. It is a dense and rich wine with aromatic expressions of ripe blackberries, wild thyme, cassis and an underlying note of tobacco. The finish is long and lingers on the palate. You can easily pair this wine with some pork chops, chicken sausages, wild boar or a meat lovers pizza.

Brioche is a KJ selection made by Proven Wines in California. The fruit was sourced from vineyards in Sonoma and Mendocino and was made by the assistant winemaker at Babcock. He wanted to create a wine in response to all the oaky, buttery-style Chardonnays out there but with more balance and nuance. The result is a crisp, bright Chardonnay with hints of stone fruit, apple, and pear along with a subtle, buttery richness from which it derives its name.
