It seems this one is the brainchild of Richard Paterson (Whye & MacKay) and Antonio Flores (Gonalez Byass). When alcohol is involved, you never know what's going to happen, right? A few drinks, a bit of amorous chat, and suddenly - surprise! - there's a wee offspring that's got a little bit of both parties in it (though it seems neither can properly make any sort of claim). "NOMAD begins its journey in the cradle of Speyside whisky (Scotland), to continue maturing in Jerez, in the Gonzalez Byass sherry casks in their legendary cellars, thus going beyond the rules. The first 6 years will be spent in bourbon casks in Scotland, and then, the liquid will travel to Jerez where it will remain for 1 more year in old Pedro Ximénez casks.
NOMAD is the only Outland Whisky ® that completes its maturation in the unique microclimate of Jerez, under the different temperature and wind changes that this city has. The Angel's Share that this confers to the liquid is 5% versus 1.5% in its place of origin, in Scotland. This great difference gives Nomad its unique personality and its unmatched rarity."

This 1980 vintage Blended Scotch whisky is from a single Sherry Butt (cask #37) bottled after 44 years at 47.8% exclusively for KWM. It is an Edrington Blend, married in 2005, the youngest component of which had been distilled in 1980. The whisky has an antique-y, old-school sherry profile, reminiscent of the way old whiskies used to taste 20 years ago.
The whisky is named for KWM's store dog, and Chief Morale Officer, Walter. As it say on the label, this is "Man's Best Blended Scotch Whisky", "Doggone - Finest - Deluxe - Rare Auld Whisky", "A Special Treat for Ony the Goodest Boys & Girls", and it is "Aged 308 Dog Years!"

Check out this label - a handsome fox terrier sporting a monocle! From Douglas Laing, Scallywag is blend of Speyside whiskies, including Macallan, Glenrothes and Mortlach. There's some bourbon cask whisky in the blend, but most come from Spanish sherry butts, which give Scallywag a pleasant sweetness.

About Monkey Shoulder: One day, our legendary Malt Master David Stewart decided to create the world’s first 'triple' malt, by combining single malts from three of Speyside’s finest distilleries. Why's it so mellow?: Well, for starters, there’s not a single drop of grain whisky in our Monkey Shoulder, and the chosen malts mature in first fill ex-bourbon casks. Our own coopers repair these ex-bourbon casks so that they impart a smooth and mellow vanilla flavour into the resting malt whisky. And then, there's Brian Kinsman who's our new Master now. He always chooses the right combination of casks for every batch he makes, ensuring each one is deliciously smooth and rich as the last. The three Speyside malts are then blended together in a small marrying tun where they hang out making eyes at each other for anything from three to six months.
What is Monkey Shoulder?: The term 'monkey shoulder' harks back to our whisky making heritage. It’s a reference to a condition that maltmen sometimes picked up while working long shifts, turning the barley by hand. It had a tendency to cause their arm to hang down a bit like a monkey’s, so they nicknamed it 'monkey shoulder'.
