Australia > Margaret River > Wine > Red
Moss wood is a family owned wine company and one of the pioneers for the Margaret River region. Their original plantings date back to 1969 with their first wines being made in 1973. Since then Margaret River has definitely made a name for itself as a well-recognized region in Australia with the wine's popularity consistently increasing.
This Merlot is from Moss Wood's second vineyard called Ribbon Vale. They purchased the vineyard in the March 2000. The vineyard was already a production vineyard but it did offer a new challenge for the people at Moss Wood, that they had never worked with Merlot before and it ended up being quite different than the other grapes they were used to. Since then they have focused on vineyard management and the way they produce the wine. Trying to make the best Merlot they possibly can.
According to the winery this is the tasting note, "The colour is bright, deep brick red. On the nose displays powerful black fruits of blackberry and mulberry, backed up by Merlot’s complex notes, with lots of mushroom, tar and earth. The palate has an immediate impact with intense dark fruit notes of cherry and blackberry filling the front and mid palate. Underneath is a firm structure of acidity and tannin, but both are in good balance, such that the texture is smooth, with no drying or bitter astringency. The finish combines classic Merlot style of soft charry oak and bitumous notes."
