This white wine is a real steal according to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. According to Parker's Advocate: these Elqui Valley vineyards offer "mindboggling quality and character at unbelievable prices….Pedro Ximenez is from very old vineyards in parral style on decomposed granite, quartz-rich soils, and might well be the highest vineyard in Chile. The place has a special brightness – I’m talking about the quality of the light from the high altitude – that brings the aromas out."

90+ Points - "The 2019 Pedro Ximenez is one of the few wines produced with this variety in Chile, but nobody is ever sure if it's exactly the same PX as in Spain. Anyway, the grape seems quite neutral and transmits the conditions of the place and vintage. 2019 was a vey good overall vintage in Chile, and the wines tend to keep good freshness and moderate alcohol. This is not super expressive on the nose, and on the palate, it's serious, dry and mineral, balanced and restrained. It's very tasty and finishes dry."

Viña Mayu was established in 2005, branching off from the Elqui Valley’s first fine wine producer that started up in 1998. Mauro Olivier was one of the pioneers, planting vines for fine wine production and sourcing grapes from different vineyards in the valley. He started working in his family's vineyards at a young age and spent some time working in Pisco production (the national Chilean spirit, made from white wine). In 2000, he planted the first Carménère and Syrah vines in the valley. Five years later, in 2005, he decided it was time to embark on his own wine project, creating the Mayu label. Mayu is an ancient INCA name for the Milky Way, literally meaning "creek of stars."

A well-priced and delicious Viura-Chardonnay blend from one of our fave Spanish wineries! This family-owned winery has been headed up by Javier Ochoa for the past 35 years, but his daughter Adriana is the winemaker. She trained in Bordeaux and then studied in Australia before returning to her home town to work at the family business. The wine is grown organically but not certified as such. It's crisp and delicious, with notes of Mediterranean citrus, apple, white blossom and white peach. A perfect pairing for seafood, arugula salad, or simply brie.
