Periquita Red

$15.99

Periquita (in English, the "little parrot") is Portugal's oldest table wine, according to the winemaker. Now that's staying power! It's a great little friend, too, for any informal gathering. This is a real find: simple, fruity and well-balanced with flavours of blueberries and strawberries. The Periquita is typically made using the Castelão, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca grapes.

RobertParket.com Tasting Note (2020 Vintage)

88 Points - Mark Squires

"The 2020 Periquita Reserva is a blend of 54% Castelão, 28% Touriga Nacional and 18% Touriga Franca, all aged for eight months in new French and American oak. It comes in at 13.2% alcohol. This does have a moderately elevated residual sugar level (seven grams), but it's not out of control. It may seem very fruity and boldly flavored but not exactly sweet. This is all that, plus it adds the hit of oak, which changes the texture notably. There is more oak impact here than with the regular Periquita, but it's still well controlled. Friendly and rather solid in the mid-palate, this drinks well now. For the extra few bucks, this provides more stuffing to hold up to foods, but I did like the freshness and greater purity of the regular version. Pick 'em."
