From Warenghem Distillery in Brittany, France. The Armorik Yeun Elez Single Malt Breton Peated is a Peated Breton Single Malt Whisky (see how I changed the order of these words to make myself sound smart?), distilled from peated malted barley imported from Scotland with a spec of 50ppm. Sadly, we only managed to get 50ml bottles of this limited release, not the full size.
Producer Note
"Launched in September 2020, Yeun Elez is the result of the distillery’s foray into peated territories. We offer you a peated variation of our Armorik single malt : we use Scottish 50 ppm peated malted barley, water from our own source and our artisanal know-how. Breton Single Malt whisky, it has been distilled and matured to highlights its delicate, elegant, and fruity peat."
50ml mlEvan’s Tasting Note
Nose: Earthy peat and smoke, crashing ocean waves in the winter, oyster shells, lemon rind, Jasmine Green Tea, apple slices, and a hint of blueberry pie.
Palate: Fresh yet oily with notes of salt and pepper, warming oatmeal with apples and cinnamon, a touch of Limoncello, and a smidge of Canton Ginger Liqueur.
Finish: Soft, with salt, pepper, and fruits recede with the ocean waves into the distance.
Comment: Remarkable whisky – very nicely put together. Soft, yet delicious in style.
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Beautiful aromatic intensity, the peat is medicinal (camphor, cloves) but supported by fruity notes, bananas, cooked peaches and pastry (cream pastry).
Palate: The smoke rounds the palate, citrus notes bringing freshness. Nice roudness with a hint of salinity.
Finish: A lingering, iodized and spicy finish, ending with a warm wood fire.
