"Master blender Stephanie Macleod’s innovative blend was inspired by Dewar’s famous double aging process. She separately blended parcels of aged malt and grain whisky, left each to marry, then blended them together to marry again, before finishing in oloroso sherry casks. A tantalizing nose of chocolate, caramel, vanilla, crystalized orange slice, fresh plum, black cherry, and moist coffee grounds. Smooth flavors of chocolate-dipped raspberries, gingersnaps, and bold sherry fruit yield to a finish of smoke and spice. Previously dubbed the Johnnie Walker Platinum Label, this 18 year old was originally released globally in 2012. There are 14 to 16 malt and grain components in this Blended Scotch whisky, with Blair Athol, Glen Elgin, Mortlach and Cardhu doing the heavy lifting. Bottled at 43% ABV.
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: A wonderfully rich aroma, combining notes of rich, sweet fruit with hints of toffee and caramel.
Palate: A comforting mix of warming, malty cereal and smooth creamy vanilla, with fragrant notes of almond and tropical tangerine.
Finish: A lingering finish with hints of dark chocolate, citrus peel and a very light, aromatic smoke.

Black Bottle can trace its roots back to 1879 when it was introduced as Gordon Graham's Special Liqueur Whisky. The name was later changed to reflect the opaque black bottle that it was sold in. Before getting into whisky blending, Gordon and his other two brothers' Graham were tea blenders by trade.
Black Bottle is composed of a blend of Islay, Highland and Speyside malts plus grain whiskies as well. After blending, the resulting whisky undergoes a marrying period, maturing for another 6 to 9 months in charred virgin oak casks.

"Taking visual cues from great old blended Scotch brands, in this case St. Leger, TBWC’s St. Thomas references three of our team members on a single label (Liz, Phoebe and Dave) including a whisky industry first “...& Daughters”. The inspiration for this label came from classic Scotch labels of yesteryear. All those wonderful words; “Extra” “Special” and “Finest Oak Casks”, as well as an Emily Chappell-illustrated Highland Cow."

Taking inspiration from MacNair’s discovery of the delights of a dram beside a smoky peat fireplace, Billy Walker has drawn upon his half century’s experience in blending to develop a recipe fit for a traditional Scottish toast to long life; “Lang may yer lum reek”."
The MacNair's Story: "Ne'er happier than when exploring the globe or the spirit from the golden still, Harvey McNair was - in the parlance of his native Glasgow - a man or 'lad o'pairts': a true Victorian entrepreneur. A trader, thereby a traveller, an inventor of all sorts of mechanical contraptions, his genius lay in the blending of fine whiskies. He loved and championed the natural, unadulterated colour of whisky. "Pure gold' he said with a wink. Bon viveur and raconteur, he cut a dash about town and had a bursting social calendar. His best stories were always 'agin hisself', like how his neighbours thought him an alchemist or, indeed, how he discovered Lum Reek. But he knew a good dram when he blended it, or indeed stumbled across it. Just like our own 21st Century Whisky legend Billy Walker, who has recreated and refined the Lum Reek blend for the modern palate.
"One autumn evening in the 1860s, after a day's fishing, our man was quaffing a dram in the old stone bothy near GlenAllachie. Due to a blocked chimney (or lum) the room filled with smoke. It had "a marvellous effect on the whisky in my glass," confided McNair later to his merchant cronies. "Indeed, perfection!" Ne'er a truer word was spoken. Today's Lum Reek is the creation of our Master Blender Billy Walker, raising his hat to the top hatted Victorian. It's a heavily peated malt, marrying Islay & Speyside whiskies with rich GlenAllachie, to extend the flavour profile. Lum Reek is matured in GlenAllachie's warehouses, then bottled at 46% (and above), unchilfiltered, allowing its natural colour to shine like those golden autumns Harvey MacNair enjoyed, decked out in his waders."
