Jaboulet Domaine Cornas

Jaboulet Domaine Cornas

$89.99

Cornas is the warmest of the northern Rhone appellations with steep slopes that allow the vines to suck up the sunshine while enjoying shelter from the wind. As such Syrah ripens more easily here than anywhere else in the Northern Rhone. The appellation is effectively a massive slab of granite, and the stone contributes a minerality to the wines. The 2017 Cornas has a rich, powerful, chewy style as well as notes of blackberries, blueberries, graphite, toasted spices, and licorice. It's rich, with some oak to integrate, but offers full body and ripe tannins

RobertParker.com Tasting Note (2017 Vintage)

Joe Czerwinski - 90-92 Points - "The full-bodied 2017 Cornas boasts layers of licorice-tinged plum and cassis fruit. It's velvety in texture but also richly tannic and barely approachable now, with what appears to be about 15 years of aging potential."

RobertParker.com Tasting Note (2015 Vintage)

Joe Czerwinski - 94 Points - "The 2015 Cornas shows why it's offered for tasting at the domaine after the Ermitage. It's full-bodied and tannic yet super-ripe and concentrated, loaded with dark fruit and framed by hints of toasted coconut. Crushed stone notes emerge on the finish just to remind you where this wine comes from, bringing home that granite edge and lengthening the finish."

For 6 generations, the Jaboulet family has been producing wines in the Côtes-du-Rhone. After nearly 30 years on the Paul Jaboulet Aine estate, where Philippe Jaboulet ran the family's vineyards, he and his son Vincent decided to leave the company to establish their own family estate, Domaine Philippe & Vincent Jaboulet. Located in the northern Rhone Valley, about one mile south of Tain l'Hermitage, the domain was founded in 2006. Philippe and Vincent retained about 13 hectares of family vineyards, including, first of all, the site "Talaber", which was renamed "Nouvelaire", which means "new era".

Father and son purchased several more plots, expanding their holdings to 30 hectares. In 2016, the domain received an HVE classification, in recognition of the estate's efforts to implement sustainable farming practices. Father and son represent the perfect tandem, embodying experience and new vitality. Philip is a recognized authority, and Vincent is a talented young oenologist who has worked all over the world before joining his father.
