This is the first edition of the "World Malt" from the new Naghama Distillery in Japan, established in 2016. It is a combinations of malts distilled by themselves, blended with others age malt whiskies from all over the World. 47%.
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: soft, honeyed and malty with bright citrus; toasty, nutty and oaky with crisp floral tones.
Palate: juicy, malty and very fruity with soft honey; lovely oils, delicate vanilla, soft floral tones and delicate spices; fruits range from orange to apple and apricots to melon; very pleasant, with only a hint of youthful spirit.
Finish: coating, oily and toasty; loads of vanilla, a touch of honey and fading fruits and spices.
Comment: well balanced and fruity; surprisingly elegant for the age of some of its components.

Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Orange, Chocolate, Vanilla and nuts from oak.
Palate: Rich fruit flavor like orange, apple. Crisp malt sweetness from Nagahama newmake.
Finish: Medium, fruity finish.

Bottled at 47%, this "World Malt" is a mariage of single malt spirit from Nagahama Distillery, a new craft distillery, also Japan's smallest, with malt whiskies from around the World. Finished in Red Wine Casks.
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: juicy and malty with a base of honey and vanilla; a touch of liquorice, fennel seeds, dark fruits, leather and chocolate.
Palate: round, rich and spicy; lovely oils, soft leather, dried cherries and cranberry and a touch of chewing tobacco; nutty with caramel, all over a base of delicate vanilla and honey.
Finish: medium in length, coating, fresh and spicy.
Comment: like Edition 01, I think this is a very interesting creation; I was worried about the wine finish element, but it has been deftly and elegantly done; very interesting.

"Amahagan World Malt Whisky is the first whisky released by the smallest whisky distillery in Japan, Nagahama Distillery. The color is reddish and glossy brick. The flavor from red wines such as raisins and berries is in perfect harmony with the unique malt flavour of Nagahama. A refreshing aftertaste of orange peel can be enjoyed. The sweetness of grain carries through the finish with a long, moderate astringent taste. Please enjoy the flavors linger long after the sip."
