This is serious and cellar-worthy Brunello Di Montalcino from le Pottazzine that wine critics agree will easily last 15 to 20 years in the bottle - if you can manage to keep your hands off it that long!
"La Potazzine" was the nickname of the owner Gigiola Gianetti's mother had given her granddaughters as infants. Gigliola originally launched this Brunello with the 1997 vintage after acquiring small parcels of the vineyard over the previous five years. Since then this wine has gained tremendous prestige and plenty of impressive wine scores year after year.
This Brunello is aged for 42 months in Slavonian oak casks before bottling.

Monica Larner - 96+ Points - "Le Potazzine always delivers a smooth and silky style with extreme elegance and the lifted cool-climate fruit that you get from this high-altitude growing site. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is taut and firm with cherry fruit, dried raspberry, tilled earth, spice and blue flower. The wine sees an extended fermentation of 40 days and ages in botte grande for 42 months. This is a well-balanced wine that is slightly thinner, with one notch lower intensity in this vintage compared to past editions. You get a light, sharp and streamlined style. I prefer the 2015 vintage slightly to this wine, but I'm suggesting a longer drinking window here. This is an 18,000-bottle release that hits the market in January 2021."

At San Leonardo they consider the family’s first real winemaker to be Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga, who was trained not only to produce great wine but also to manage the family's viticultural endeavours. With Bordeaux at the forefront, he was encouraged to pursue his healthy curiosity for the world’s great wines. This interest led to his decision to study oenology in Lausanne and to deepen his knowledge with research trips to France and Tuscany. The latter was where, on the San Guido property of Sassacaia, he began the long, endearing partnership with Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who revealed all the secrets of the Bordeaux blend to Carlo and became his “oenological godfather”. Giacomo Tachis served as their consulting winemaker for many years before turning that job over to Carlo Ferrini, and in the Italian wine world, it doesn't get any better than those two. The wine is a brilliant ruby red with attractive depth. The aromas are alcohol and fruit-rich when the wine is young, mellowing with bottle aging into ripe plum fruit layered over a faintly grassy background note. Dry, soft and well-balanced on the palate, it reveals a pleasing bitterish twist in the finish. Ideal with rice and pasta in tomato or meat sauces, and filled pasta, as well as grilled meats, poultry, white meats and soft cheeses.

An elegant Sangiovese from Montalcino!
The Parus Sangiovese IGT is a touch more playful than Rosso or Brunello di Montalcino; Crunchy red cherries, red currants, Saskatoon berries, wet gravel and floral spice are very apparent on the palate. This wine smooth with good structure, subtle tannins and bright acidity. It is easy to drink on its own, but this wine is a dream with Chicken Cacciatore.

Antoniolo resides in the historic wine region of Gattinara within Piedmont. The winery was founded in 1948 and is currently operated by siblings Lorella and Alberto Antoniolo. The estate has 15 hectares under vine, with a majority of the plantings Nebbiolo plus an indigenous white grape called Erbaluce. Antoniolo is one of the best producers in the Gattinara region and is at least partially responsible for its growing modern prestige.
To quote Antonio Galloni: "Antoniolo remains a reference point for what Nebbiolo in northern Piedmont is all about. I can’t recommend these wines highly enough."
Gattinara itself is a historically great region for the Nebbiolo grape - in fact, the area predates Barolo in putting great Nebbiolo on the map.
