Today, Ochoa lies in the hands of the fifth and sixth generation of the Ochoa Family, Javier, Marivi, Adriana and Beatriz, who work together to continue the winery's legacy. This Gran Reserva is a product created by Javier Ochoa, a wine that is only produced in the best of years. It is a Tempranillo-focused blend, with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, that shows a powerful yet elegant character. Full of red fruits, wood spice and earth. It's big and rich with abundant black fruit, drinking well now but will continue to improve for another five years or so.

Made from Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes from vineyards El Secadero, La Milla and Montijo. It ages for 8 years in the winery, where the first 2 years ages in American and French oak barrels of 225 liters and the rest of the time in bottle until it reaches the moment to start drinking it. Of course this wine can still improve in the bottle. We estimate its potential in 10 more years once it is released into the market, so approximately 20 years since its harvest."

This is a beautiful Mencía that comes from 70 to 90-year-old vines from the villages of Cacabelos, Vilafranca del Bierzo and Toral de los Vados, all in the Bierrzo region of Spain. The wine is fermented using ambient yeast fermentation then left to age for nine months in French and American oak barrels. It's then aged another 6 months in barrel before it is finally released. Mencia is grape that was overlooked outside of Spain but it's gaining a loyal following for its calling card of flowery aromas complimented by flavours that include strawberry, raspberry, black licorice, pomegranate and cherry. It can produce light, almost Pinot Noir of Gamay-like wines but this one is considerably more substantial, ideal with grilled meats.

Owner & winemaker, Rosalia Molina, produces these organic wines in one of Spain's highest-altitude wineries. Her mission is to make wines that express the typicity of DO Manchuela, and this includes the vineyards, the altitude and the varieties planted. The climate pushes the limits for grape growing because, at 1,100 metres above sea level issues like frost become a concern. The grapes tend to experience a large diurnal range that encourages even ripening and helps to retain natural acidity. Rosalia's vineyards are certified organic, she uses only natural fertilizers, promoting biodiversity by welcoming chickens, sheep and pigs from local farms to roam the vineyards freely. Grapes are hand-harvested and vinified as naturally as possible with native yeasts and little other intervention. The wines are then aged in clay amphora and some in French oak to give texture and complexity.
This organic red blend is made up predominantly of Syrah, with some Cabernet Franc and Garnacha, dense and layered. One to enjoy now or cellar for a while. It spends 24 months in French oak as well.Ripe notes of black berries, blueberries, a touch of minerality and an expressive note of black pepper. A great wine to pair with a juicy steak, tourtiere and/or roasted root vegetables. Vegan friendly!
