Temple Bruer Shiraz/Malbec 2006

Australia > South Australia > Red Wine > Shiraz

Temple Bruer was established in the 1970's at Langhorne Creek in South Australia. They are devoted to using sound organic growing practices. They grow all of their own fruit and are justly proud of their efforts. This blend of Shiraz-Malbec is full-bodied with warm cherry and blackberry fruit aromas. The palate is big with wild berry, vanilla and coconut.

The first time I had the Temple Bruer was at Calgary's Piq Niq restaurant when they carried it on their wine list. I was interested because it was an Aussie Malbec, not a common thing. It started out very closed, with pretty gentle fruit, and a light nose. In truth, I was slightly disappointed. Within 5 minutes in the glass, however, it exploded, and became beyond wonderful. The nose and palate just came alive! Tons of cherries, blackcurrents, rich wood and vanilla! Since then I decant every bottle (except when I want to demonstrate to friends the reasons for decanting). My 2001 is still fresh, sharp and young. I put a case down to see how it will age a few years.
