Macallan 1953 Cask 516

In 1953 Sir Edmond Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay became the first humans to reach the summit of Mount Everest, Queen Elizabeth II, Joseph Stalin died, Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" premiered as did Arthur Miller's "The Crucible". "Nose: a bit meaty with the nose offering a big counter to the thumping sherry and delicate smoke. Taste: full sherry alert as the fruitcake richness goes into overdrive, as do the spices. Finish: some medium roast Santos lightens the oak while enrichening the barley. Balance: deliciously big and unflinching in its Christmas pudding intensity." - Jim Murray
